Unlock the potential of financial markets to accelerate the energy transition by creating a novel financing mechanism and sustainable investment asset class for avoided Scope 4 emissions.
2.  Our Mission

We develop the first digitally verified and finance-integrated certification model for avoided emissions, enabling their integration into sustainable finance markets.
    3.  Problem

Today, linear and resource-intensive business models remain more economically competitive in the short term than equivalent circular solutions. This creates a major barrier to the transition from a linear to a circular economy.

While most corporate climate strategies focus on Scope 1–3 emissions, there is currently no finance-compatible framework to quantify, vertify, and monetize avoided emissions (Scope 4). At the same time, financial markets primarily prioritize carbon offsetting mechanisms rather than emission avoidance.

Avoided emissions prevent greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere in the first place, whereas offsets merely compensate for emissions after they have already occurred. As a result, high-impact circular solutions with strong climate benefits remain systematically undervalued and underfinanced. 

    4.  Our Use case

We use second-life photovoltaic (PV) systems as a real-world demonstration case. Decommissioned PV modules are tested, certified, and redeployed into new applications such as industrial sites, community energy systems, or decentralized renewable energy projects.

Despite their clear environmental and economic benefits, second-life PV solutions currently lack adequate financial valuation mechanisms and scalable financing opportunities.

    5.  The Idea

We want to deploy the concept for a voluntary market for Scope 4 CO₂ Certificates generated through second-life PV projects. 

The certification and trading mechanism is supported through a decentralized infrastructure using the Balancer Protocol, enabling transparent, traceable, and market-driven exchange of avoided-emission assets.

    6.  The goal

Our goal is to transform avoided emissions from an unaccounted externality into a digital measurable, verifiable, and investable asset class for the financial industry.

The project develops a digitally verifiable certification model for Scope-4 CO Certificates. Our proposed solutions consist of 4 layers: 

1.   Second-life PV deployment (physical layer)

2.   Scope 4 CO certification (methodology layer)

3.   Tokenize Certificate (digital layer)

4.   Create an Automated Market Maker (market layer)
