Project Idea Description
Challenge Description
- What problem would you like to solve?
- The application of this project includes the investigation of the electrical connections between the reef blinds using, if necessary, external, innovative contractors. The electrical connection has to be optimized and integrated into the actuating mechanism of the reef blinds. In a existing prototype of a preliminary work, the electrical connection is purely functional.
- Who are the customers and how will they profit from a solution?
- basically any building owner or property operator
- How does your challenge affect energy savings or CO2 emissions?
- Within the preliminary work, the potential in Switzerland was estimated. Depending on the scenario, a potential of around 4% of the Swiss final electricity consumption can be shown.
- Current status and previous activities
- In a preliminary work, the feasibility and the functional samples of a PV laminated reefing blinds were investigated by means of self-built prototypes (smallest format and demo assembly). Now, in a next step, the complete PV laminated blind of a window unit shall be assembled and electrically measured over 1 year at the OST campus.
- Resources needed
- Now, in a next step (not part of this application), the complete PV-laminated reef blind of a window unit is to be mounted and electrically measured over 1 year at the OST campus. Different times of the year and also times of the day (partial shading) as well as days of the week and also automatic vs. manual control of the blinds are to map the most diverse operating states of the PowerShades. The results from these long term measurements will build a base for strategies and algorithms of setting the blind positions angle as well as the window shadings. NTN Energy Lab should help us with access to different inovativ companies working in the sector of electrical connections.
"PowerShade" will produce electric energy out of reefing blinds
