Challenge Description
Highly filled polymer compounds are based on petroleum derived polymer and CaCo3 fillers.
To reduce CO2 emission, could it be possible to use bio-based polymers and/or bio-based fillers?
Bio-based polymer and/or bio based filler :
- Could be one or the other. What makes more sense?
- Can one compensate the other?
Envisaged material properties:
- Density target : 1.6 – 1.8 kg/liter
- Elongation target : 100 %
For reference, typical petroleum based polymers can be:
- Poly Olefin elastomer
- EVA
- EPDM
Life cycle assessment
- Demonstration of negative CO2
- Cradle to gate calculation
Implementation Partner: Autoneum
