Sustainable Production of Carbon Fibers

Challenge Metadata

Challenge Description

Production of carbon fibers requires a lot of energy and a plastic precursor. Energetically, nothing can be saved, but by using renewable precursors (algae? lignin?) it may be possible to improve the energy balance or CO2 balance.

Implementation Partner: Ensinger Composites Schweiz GmbH

The Ensinger Group is engaged in the development, production and distribution of compounds, semi-finished products, composites, finished parts and profiles made of engineering plastics. The further development of tried-and-tested manufacturing processes, new applications and international expansion have earned the family-owned company a place in the top tier of its industry. Headquartered in Nufringen (Baden-Württemberg), the company has around 2,600 employees at more than 30 production sites and sales offices worldwide.
