Raw Material Extraction from Renewable Sources not Competing with Food Production

Challenge Metadata

Challenge Description

The trend towards renewable raw materials is good but dangerous because the usable cultivable land is limited. The production of crops used for raw materials often comes at the expense of land used to grow food.

We are looking for ideas to advance research into the possibilities of generating fibres and polymers from the sea (e.g. algae) or from e.g. wood production waste.

Implementation Partner: Ensinger Composites Schweiz GmbH

The Ensinger Group is engaged in the development, production and distribution of compounds, semi-finished products, composites, finished parts and profiles made of engineering plastics. The further development of tried-and-tested manufacturing processes, new applications and international expansion have earned the family-owned company a place in the top tier of its industry. Headquartered in Nufringen (Baden-Württemberg), the company has around 2,600 employees at more than 30 production sites and sales offices worldwide.
