Detailed description of the challenge
The goal of this challenge is to develop a novel tool for project management based on a paradigm of decentralisation and democratisation. The organisation and management of project plays a crucial role. In classic project management, there is always a project leader who takes over these tasks. However, with a DAPM another form of project management is imaginable: the administrative tasks could be taken over by a DAPM and the governance of the project could take place in a fair, democratic and accountable manner. This can also address free-rider problems. There are three stakeholder groups of the DAPM. First, there are the customers. They assign projects and funds to the DAPM and determine evaluation criteria, milestones, and so on. Second, there are the workers who take over some tasks that are part of the projects. Third, there are token holders that participate in the governance of the DAPM and the evaluation of project deliverables. These three groups can overlap.
As a PoC, the DAPM will be tested in an elective module of the ZHAW. The lecturer takes on the role of the customer, while the students are the workers and the token holders. The lecturer will pose the following project to the DAPM:
- Create a (fictional) blockchain startup.
- Elaborate certain deliverables: Basic idea, business plan, token design, economic policy, go-to-market strategy etc.
The students may then hand-in proposals for the first deliverable, e.g. the idea for the startup. Afterwards, the token holders can vote on the best proposal and the winning idea will be further pursued. All participants receive some rewards for proposing ideas, voting, winning the ideation phase etc. The same mechanism applies for the later deliverables. Finally, the amount of tokens is part of the grading for the module.
With this, we can get rid of the rigid group project structure that is known in schools, but also companies. People can participate in fields in which they are most interested, skilled, and motivated. This is a new and flexible way to manage projects.
Requirements placed on the submitted idea/solution
The main goal of this challenge is the development of a technical solution for the DAPM. This will include some coding with the aim to develop a simple PoC for the DAPM on a public blockchain platform with an easy UI to test the DAPM with students. The solution should be open and free to access.
