Challenge Description
Secure and Sustainable Supply Chain for Building Materials
The building sector is a major producer of waste materials. As soon as it is built into a structure, the data related to the material is lost. Once the building reaches the end of its life cycle, the demolition material becomes waste rather than a reusable resource. For this challenge, you will create a digital twin of the building material, thus enabling its recycling or correct disposal.

What’s in it for you?
- We help you to further develop your idea and to build a team around the project.
- We connect you with corporate partners and mentors from academia who can help you take your idea to the next level.
- You may get invited to the incubation program of our partner CV VC, which comes with the opportunity to receive up to CHF 125,000 in funding from CV VC in exchange for 10% equity.
Initial Situation
- Each OEM (original equipment manufacturer) uses its own system of declaration and identification.
- The quality (i.g. sustainable information) cannot be traced after a building has been finished.
- There is not backtrack to the provider.
Expectation
Create a secure and sustainable supply chain of building materials!
- Setting an identification standard with the System GS1 to build a digital twin of the material.
- Each involved party identifies its products with a unique identifier (GTIN, sGTIN, GIAI, GLN) i.e. screws. This identifer shall be coded with a data matrix, RFID tag or barcode containing basic information (producer, origin of the material, environmental and sustainable information,…)
- The product identifcation of the succeeding product refers to the identifier of the used, prior products.
- The data supply chain, based on block chain technology, delivers consistent information on the used materials.
