🌟 Meet Our Resident: Essi Niemi, Life Science Product Manager at UPM Biomedicals 🌟

“I enjoy that there are a lot of scientifically knowledgeable and talented people here, experts in their own fields,” says Essi Niemi about her experience at the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area Main Campus.

If I’m looking to learn about a specific topic, there’s always an expert in the community with whom I can talk to learn more. And if someone needs support in my areas of expertise, I’m always happy to help, of course.”

Essi serves as a Life Science Product Manager at UPM Biomedical, a branch of the Finnish-based forestry industry corporation UPM. At UPM Biomedicals, she and her colleagues produce high-quality nanofibrillar cellulose biomaterials for clinical and life science applications. Currently, Essi and her colleague Marlies represent the DACH region for the company from Allschwil, while the rest of the team is located in Finland and the UK.

“Although we are still a small team here, at Main Campus we are part of a larger life science community. As a newcomer to Switzerland and Basel, I’ve found the community to be extremely welcoming, making it effortless to become part of it,” she adds.

Essi appreciates that the Bachgraben area is still developing, noting that “there’s always room for something new. Companies and people aren’t necessarily set in their ways, creating endless possibilities for growth. I’m curious to see how Main Campus HQ and the surrounding area will evolve in the coming years.”

One of Essi’s favorite features of the campus is the green courtyard, which brings daily office life closer to nature and provides a beautiful view of the changing seasons throughout the year.
