Challenging the Status Quo: Collaborative #Innovation between #Academia and #Industry

The Exploration Lab (EXL), a program of the ETH Feasibility Lab, is wrapping up its 2024/25 cycle with a vernissage at Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich, in its Event Hangar.

🎉 Reason for celebration:1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ explorative projects were conducted at the intersection of hashtag#academia and hashtag#industry, partly within the ETH Hangar and partly on site at the companies represented.

The vernissage will feature an hashtag#exhibition, discussions with project stakeholders, and reflections on the future of EXL.

🎓🏭 Key players in the 2024/2025 edition:🏭🎓

1️⃣ 4️⃣ highly motivated Master’s students (Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT), ETH Zurich, ETH Zurich, Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, EPFL, ZHdK Zürcher Hochschule der Künste)

6️⃣ ETH Zürich staff members, facilitated by Prof. Dr. Mirko Meboldt (D-MAVT)

4️⃣ industry partners: Bühler Group, Bossard Group, VATAG GROUP, V-ZUG

🗨️Jeremia Geiger, Co-Lead at ETH Feasibility Lab, when asked what inspires him most in his role, responds: "Empowering young talent to thrive."💬

🛠️ How were the students involved selected?🛠️

A rigorous application & interview process ensures the Exploration Lab choose hands-on problem solvers with strong teamwork skills and a drive for innovation, beyond just academic achievements.

💡 What is their approach to collaborative innovation work? 💡

Bold, high-risk ideas are taken through a structured innovation funnel, leading to:

✅ Corporate R&D integration

✅ ETH hashtag#research collaborations

✅ Termination if no viable path forward is found

🚀🎉 Success story: Their first-ever project with Bühler Group hit the market as a #MinimumViableProduct at the end of 2024! 🎉🚀
