Detect moving persons with WiFi channel response

Project Idea Metadata

Project Idea Description

CSI (Channel state information) is a characteristic that can be retrieved from certain WLAN hardware. It contains phase and amplitude information about the transmission channel which is usually used to increase transmission quality.

The CSI information highly depends on the environment such as geometry of the room, persons in vicinity etc. Therefore, this technology could potentially be used to detect moving persons in non line-of-sight environments. This project identifies the suitability of using CSI data for detecting moving persons in vicinity of a WiFi device by evaluation of the technology or even building a prototype for demonstration purposes. It further identifies the performance parameters of such a system.
