Project Idea Description
Introduction:
The landscape of mobility is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, requiring a shift in business practices from isolated pipelines to interconnected ecosystems. This evolution poses a challenging task for companies and stakeholders within the mobility transition to effectively manage and utilize data across corporate boundaries. On September 12, 2025, the EU Data Act will come into effect, mandating the release of usage information for B2B configurations, while the GDPR sets stricter data protection policies in the B2C sector. This confronts companies with a significant challenge, as it creates a conflict between legal requirements and strategic objectives. Companies are tasked with enabling data sharing and usage by third parties for digital business models while simultaneously meeting legal requirements.
Problem Statement:
Through the Techstars x Audi Denkwerkstatt Accelerator program, we gained deep insights into how Multinational Companies (MNCs) like Audi are preparing for these legal challenges. Through 45 interviews with various departments at Audi, including legal, R&D, and digitalization, it became clear that while strategies exist to address B2C data usage, the area of B2B data usage and sharing is still under development to adequately respond to the EU Data Act. Internal communication and implementation of these strategies between legal departments and business units are inefficient, and risk management is not fully aligned with the requirements of the EU Data Act. SMEs and startups, which often do not employ their own data-related legal experts, are inadequately prepared and rely on costly external consultation. This is precisely where our solution comes in, addressing the needs of many small companies lacking legal expertise.
Solution Approach:
Our innovative solution offers automated detection of risk profiles for the use or sharing of specific data points or combinations in the mobility sector, tailored to the requirements of the EU Data Act. Our algorithm essentially provides an automated translation of the EU Data Act customized to the specific use case profiles of mobility stakeholders. By using advanced generative AI in conjunction with the relevant legal framework for mobility use cases, our solution drastically reduces the burden of manual processes in legal departments. It assists companies in making legal advice and decisions more efficiently and effectively based on the identified risk profiles. This approach not only facilitates compliance with the EU Data Act but also promotes dynamic and innovative data usage across corporate boundaries, which is essential for the future of mobility and its digital business models.
Next Steps:
Having already validated the idea with Audi, we now aim to develop the necessary taxonomic mapping of the EU Data Act to the most prominent and liquid mobility use cases. To achieve this, we plan to build a PoC with a mobility company to develop not only the taxonomy but also an initial MVP of the RegTech product. This aims to prove and finalize the aspect of technical feasibility before validating with business viability and scalable customer desirability.
