Project Idea Description
Kolbev offers an innovative solution to the pressing challenge of providing sustainable and accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Our autonomous mobile robot with an energy storage system is designed to distribute renewable energy to every parking space with minimal infrastructure costs. Kolbev's B2B solution is flexible and scalable, easily deployable at any parking lot. It is currently wired and in the future can be wireless solution, the operation can be seen on this video https://youtu.be/IxDTtD_Do-w
Our solution not only addresses the need for convenient EV charging at desired locations but also contributes to the decarbonization of transportation and supports the climate targets outlined in the Federal Council's Energy Strategy 2050. Additionally, Kolbev enables businesses and private users to transition to EVs and provides renewable energy, furthering environmental sustainability.
Moreover, Kolbev actively participates in the circular economy by reusing batteries, minimizing waste, and maximizing resource efficiency. With Kolbev, we aim to accelerate the transition towards sustainable mobility by providing an efficient and cost-effective charging solution that benefits both users and the environment.
- Problem:
- High total cost of ownership (TCO), initial investment, and long return on investment (ROI)
- Fluctuation in demand during different seasons
- Limited accessibility and scalability of traditional fixed charging stations
- B2B Customers:
- Real estate companies
- Events venues
- Hotels
- Car sharing companies
- EV fleets
- Commercial parking facilities (Shopping malls, Ski resorts, etc.)
- Airports
- Municipalities and transportation authorities
- Transformation of the mobility sector:
- Lower initial investment compared to traditional fixed charging infrastructure
- Reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) over the long term
- Faster return on investment (ROI)
- Increased accessibility and scalability of EV charging infrastructure
Current status and previous activities
- Previously, we have conducted extensive research and development to design and prototype our autonomous mobile robot with an energy storage system for EV charging. The beside vehicle solution which we tested with EWB at Bern turned out to occupy too much space at the parking lot. Beside vehicle solution prevented other cars and pedestrians to use the parking space. That is why we decided to use under vehicle solution which turn out to be significant improvement.
- We did initial trials with Saas-Fee Ski resort. Through iterative testing and refinement, we have learned valuable lessons about the technical requirements, market dynamics, and user preferences in the EV charging ecosystem. These insights have guided our product development roadmap and strategic planning, ensuring that we address key pain points and deliver a competitive solution in the market.
Resources needed
- Planned work packages include:
- Further refinement and optimization of the hardware and software components of our mobile charging robot,
- Optimizing operations for efficiency and scalability,
- Identifying and refining use cases across various industries and applications,
- Prioritizing safety aspects to ensure regulatory compliance and user safety,
- Conducting pilot deployments to validate performance, customer and user feedback,
- Scaling up production and deployment capabilities to meet market demand.
- Marketing and business development activities to engage potential customers, partners, and stakeholders, as well as for ongoing research and innovation to stay ahead of market trends and technological advancements.
New Mobility Lab and New Mobility Ecosystem can greatly support our work.
The New Mobility Lab can support us by providing access to expertise, facilities, and networks to accelerate our product development and commercialization efforts. Specifically, we seek guidance and mentorship from industry veterans and subject matter experts to refine our business model, validate market opportunities, and navigate regulatory requirements.
