Project Idea Description
What do we do?
We are a young association that organizes building culture workshops (Baukultur-Workshops) for children. We want to introduce children into the amazing world of infrastructure and transportation and empower them to think bold, independent and take action - the future lies in their hands! The idea of the workshops is to introduce children to the world of work of traffic planners and in turn enable planners to look at the built environment through the eyes of children. Together we will discover new ways for future, design and build imaginary cities and infrastructures!
What do we want to achieve?
We want to start where education is most sustainable: with the youngest users! We want to empower children to think boldly and independently and wake a drive for innovative mobility, sustainable building culture and infrastructure design in them. We want to encourage children to think systematically and support them in proactively reflecting and forming their own opinions. We want to strengthen children's creativity and problem-solving skills as well as their manual and construction skills.
How do we want to achieve this?
As part of the Boosters project, we want to develop a workshop format on sustainable and innovative mobility to get young minds excited about mobility projects. We want to develop an organizational strategy to optimize our internal processes, which are time-consuming and labor-intensive for the team. As a result, we want to hold a large-scale workshop. We also want to strengthen our social media presence, develop educational materials and/or video/online tools to reach the widest possible audience.
We want to test our ideas in the pump pool in Basel's Klybeck area in a space that offers many opportunities for growth. Swisslife, Christoph Merian Foundation and Perita AG are supporting us as partners.
Who benefits from the offer?
We work with children aged 4-10 years (with accompanying adults). As part of the Booster project, we would like to explore the possibility of including other age groups in the project. The workshops are attended by around 30-50 children.
Who are we?
HuusHOCH - Association for promoting building culture. The concept of workshops comes from the ARCHIDZIECIAKI (ARCHIKIDS) project that Maria Ochocka developed in Poland since 2011. The workshops were very popular - over 2 years, 24 workshops were held and around 1,200 children took part.
So far, we have received financial support from the Christoph Merian Foundation (who also provides our 10% budget for the booster project), the Association of Swiss Architects and PERITA AG.
Core Team for the Booster project:
Maria Anna Ochocka
Founder of the Huushoch Association, freelance architect

Friederike Kluge

What support do we need?
We would like to work with strategically-minded experts, preferably from the mobility and education sector (preferably with experience in media/video teaching materials).
How do we want to spend the grant?
- We want to invest in mentoring and coaching so our structure and actions are more effective
- We want to develop our website so it becomes a resource for teachers and parents.
- We want to hire a company to help us develop instructional videos for our website and social media
- We want to invest in our tools needed for the workshops
We would be delighted to develop our ideas and workshops as part of the New Mobility Lab Innovation Booster!
We organize building culture workshops (Baukultur-Workshops) for children. We want to introduce children into the amazing world of infrastructure and transportation and empower them to think bold, independent and take action - the future lies in their hands! We launched a project on circular building in 2023, now we want to address the topic of future mobility with the children!
