Project Idea Description
Hapimag is a Swiss holiday company founded in 1963 in the canton of Zug based on a strong
sense of community and a deep-rooted belief in the importance of sharing and caring; Our
business model is sustainable at its core thanks to our cooperative sharing model; Firstly, it
allows our members to collectively own and use all the resorts, fostering a deeper sense of care
and community. Secondly, it ensures high and consistent occupancy that help the regions we
operate in to flourish all year round. And finally, it enables us to reinvest in the development and
maintenance of the resorts in a way that ensures their longevity while minimising their
environmental impact. True to our values, our aim for the future is to achieve net zero emissions
by 2050.
Description of measures implemnted:
- Photovoltaic panels have been implemented across 7 resorts in total with the latest 3 installations taking place in 2023 where we were able to commission 3 large photovoltaic systems of an investment of 1.3 million Euros in Bodrum, Interlaken and Ascona. This enables us to produce a total of 1,747,000 kwh/year, this means around 10% of the electricity we use in Bodrum (June and October), around 20% in Interlaken and around 40% in Ascona.
- 90% of our resorts switched to energy-saving LED-based efficient lighting solutions which majorly contributed to our 5% reduction in electricity consumption in 2023 alone.
- Optimization of heating consumption through the installation of thermal solar systems across 14 resorts: We also have standards and monitoring devices in place to ensure heating and cooling temperatures are kept within ecological limits.
- Plant-based products and dishes are offered across all our honesty shops and restaurants since 2022 in the aim of reducing meat consumption and hence its climate impact.
- Fireworks were completely banned across all resorts starting in 2023 due to their negative impact not only on the environment but also people’s health.
- Wild bee homes were installed across 30 resorts to preserve the regions’ biodiversity.
- Implementation of water saving solutions resulting in the reduction of water consumption by almost 8% in 2023 alone. And the installation of water ground pumps to reduce water consumption in Cavallino and Cannero.
Planned measures:
- Installation of photovoltaic systems in 11 more resorts in the foreseeable future.
- 100% switch to an efficient LED-based lighting system in the next 2 years.
- Increase biodiversity impact through the absolute minimisation of unnecessary productsand packaging (especially plastic) and the switch to biodegradable products where possible. Such as what we currently do with our offering of biodegradable coffee capsules from 2 start-up partners Rezemo and Direct Coffee
- Installation of heating pumps to reduce gas and oil consumption in 2 resorts. A number of resorts are being assessed to have similar installations.
Measures implemented:
- Photovoltaic panels have been implemented across 7 resorts.
- 90% of our resorts switched to energy-saving LED-based efficient lighting solutions.
- Optimization of heating consumption through the installation of thermal solar systems across 14 resorts.
- Implementation of water saving solutions resulting in the reduction of water consumption by almost 8% in 2023 alone.
- Installation of 67 E-charging stations for electric cars across 28 resorts.
