Project Idea Description

Challenge Description

Roll-out of a certification process across Switzerland to support urban communities in reducing their ecological footprint and to monitor projects from construction to operation. SEED employs a multi-stakeholder approach within a solid operational framework of 60 performance indicators during planning and operation of urban districts to develop and implement a shared neighbourhood vision and promote a new urban lifestyle.

The SEED certification addresses all stakeholders involved in the construction process and the operation of an urban district by supporting the community with advise and reviewing the performance of the operation every two to three years to make sure the energy consumption and emissions respond to the sustainability targets and to implement new technical adjustments to optimise the performance where needed.

Current status and previous activities

Three pilotes are in construction and the indicators to reduce the ecological footprint need to be revised to achieve an even better result in the future.

The stakeholder's identification with the pilotes is really high, but we need to expand the network of projects across Switzerland to maximise the impact.

Resources needed

Resources are needed to help the growth of the brand across Switzerland and to participate with their expertise in the review of the certification process.

The SEED certification promotes the creation of proactive urban communities that support the citizens through shared learning, innovation, and financial means to reduce their ecological footprint.

The challenge is the growth of the community culminating in the establishment of the SEED certification as the new standard for sustainable districts across Switzerland. A think-tank of specialists shall review the certification process and foster its further development.
