Context: cosmetics has deeply entered the ecommerce field, leveraging on the surge of fashion-related items being sold online and the constant social media debate, where (life)styles and fashion trends are constantly debated and negotiated.

Challenge: however, especially in the case of perfumes, ecommerce is missing most of the actual experience one might get while testing them in a shop. What can be displayed on a screen is just a bottle or a box…

Goal: analyze the current strategies being used to represent perfumes online and explore innovative ways, which could provide a better – more realistic and involving – anticipation of experience. Being able to develop better user experiences in this field might provide a major competitive advantage, especially for companies that are not (yet) established.
