Mountain arable farming in the Canton of Bern

Project Idea Metadata

Project Idea Description

In the Canton of Bern there is currently no equivalent to the successful Granalpin project from Graubünden, which promotes sustainable mountain arable farming under a unified label. With this proposal, I aim to establish such a label in Bern to support innovative and resource-efficient agriculture in mountainous regions.

During the InnoBooster workshop, it became clear that a genuine shift toward sustainable farming is closely linked to alternative subsidy models. As a family business operating an alp in the Diemtigtal, I understand the challenges of mountain regions firsthand. Therefore, I focus on developing cereal-based products using specialty grains grown in the mountains, providing an alternative to traditional dairy and meat production and paving the way for national subsidy policy reforms.
