Project Idea Description

This project envisions a local and participatory urban agriculture ecosystem in the city of Sierre. Anchored in 1000m² of permaculture gardens and 5 hectares of farmland with goats, sheep, pigs, and soon 100 chickens, the initiative integrates food production, biodiversity, education, and social innovation. A fruit press will be inaugurated and a “House of Food” is planned as a future hub for sustainability education and food transformation.

More than a farm, this project is an ecosystem that seek to use Living Lab methodologies to engage a wide network of stakeholders—local citizens, schools, farmers, and public authorities—in the co-design of sustainable food systems. By encouraging hands-on participation in food cultivation and care, the initiative aims to nudge behavioral shifts toward the Planetary Health Diet, fostering more conscious and local eating habits. From consumers to co-producers!

Key partners include the association Le Satellite, the HES-SO Valais-Wallis (Energy Living Lab@HES-SO), the city of Sierre, and private farmers. Together, we seek to create a replicable model that bridges the gap between urban life and agriculture, regenerates biodiversity, and empowers citizens to take part in the ecological transition—starting with what’s on their plate.

We are developing an inclusive urban agriculture initiative in Sierre that reconnects citizens with food through permaculture, animal care, and co-creation. Spanning 1000m² of permaculture and 5 hectares of farmland, including goats, pigs, and poultry, the project also features a fruit press and a planned “House of Food.” By integrating schools, citizens, farmers, and municipalities using Living Lab methods, the initiative promotes sustainable consumption, biodiversity, and community resilience.
