Project Idea Description

♾️

What fundamental problem are you addressing?

The mainstream fashion industry encourages frequent purchasing and rapid disposal of clothing, driving overconsumption behaviours and waste. We want to propose an alternative to this linear consumption model.

What systemic problem hypotheses are the starting point for your mainstreaming approach?

Our approach is based on the hypothesis that the mainstream Swiss fashion system is structurally oriented toward overconsumption and waste, and that the current second-hand market is held back by poor image, bad accessibility, lack of trust, and insufficient integration with circular economy goals. By addressing these systemic issues, we aim to elevate second-hand fashion as a desirable, accessible, and sustainable alternative by matching the quality, curation, and service standards of leading fashion brands.

Which habits do you want to change or mainstream through which approach?

We aim to change the widespread habit of associating a new desire with a new purchase. Our approach is not only about facilitating exchanges but about shifting everyday consumption habits, encouraging people to rethink ownership, value what already exists, and take new sustainable options in consideration.

Who will benefit from mainstreaming and how?

Shoppers:

Businesses:

Which people/organizations are in your team and what is their role?

Vincent Ghilione is the main founder and driver of the initiative. With 25 years of experience in website and apps creation in marketing agencies, he has a deep understanding of app development, digital marketing and digital advertising.

Has the idea (or variants) already been tested? If so, with what findings?

Our market validation confirms a clear "right to win" for a second-hand clothing app in the Swiss market.

Through qualitative research and professional market analysis, we've:

  1. Identified specific target demographics with strong interest in second-hand fashion
  2. Mapped buyer motivations that drive second-hand clothing purchases in Switzerland
  3. Uncovered critical pain points for both consumers/buyers and publishers/sellers that our solution directly addresses

These findings provide concrete validation that our approach solves real market problems while revealing tactical opportunities to differentiate our offering.

What would you like to work on during the booster?

During the booster, we aim to develop and deploy our first platform prototype for targeted real-world testing.

Our specific goals are to:

  1. Build a functional beta version of the platform
  2. Launch a focused digital advertising campaign in one Swiss city
  3. Collect and analyze user behavior data
  4. Conduct one-on-one feedback sessions with early adopters

By the end of the booster, we will have validated our core business model assumptions through actual user interactions and gathered critical insights to refine our solution before wider deployment.

What do you hope for from the booster?

I'm seeking two specific outcomes from the booster:

  1. Team expansion by recruiting partners with complementary skills in finance and circular economy to join the core project team, bringing expertise that enhances our existing capabilities.
  2. Strategic alliances with established circular businesses that could both benefit from our platform and serve as early adopters, providing initial content and services while helping validate our model in the Swiss market.

These connections would accelerate our development and create a stronger ecosystem around our second-hand clothing platform from launch.

Who do you need as an expert to further advance the idea?

To further advance this idea, we would need expert advice onscaling business models and ensuring long‑term viability. Although we’ve built and tested various monetization scenarios, we need their expertise to refine our forecasts, optimize revenue streams, and design a sustainable financial framework for growth.

How much budget do you require from us for what (maximum CHF 22,500 including expert vouchers)?

We require CHF 16,000 to create and validate our MVP, allocated as follows:

  1. AI MVP Development — CHF 3,500 Development of core AI photo recognition and listing functionalities essential to platform operation
  2. Marketplace MVP Development — CHF 9,500 Creation of beta platform with minimum viable functionalities
  3. Infrastructure - CHF 500 Hosting on Swiss servers and AI model deployment costs (Infomaniak)
  4. Digital Advertising Validation Campaign — CHF 2,500 Expert-led targeted marketing campaign to reach appropriate test audiences and generate meaningful validation data
