Project Idea Description
SmartDrop is a Swiss startup developing PFAS-free, water-based nanocoatings for textiles, providing water and oil repellency through advanced surface engineering.
To further enhance coating performance — including wash durability, abrasion resistance, and UV stability — the next generation of nanocoatings will need to go beyond formulation alone.
Future developments will require the integration of Surface Structure–Behavior Design (SSBD) principles to ensure:
- alignment with evolving EU regulations
- faster response to end-user performance requirements
In particular, SmartDrop aims to introduce new functional chemicals, such as functionalized organic nanoparticles, into its coating systems.
To fully exploit their potential, these materials must be designed and integrated following an SSBD-guided approach.
We are looking for partners with expertise in SSBD to support the design of next-generation coating systems developed by SmartDrop.
The objective is to:
- guide the integration of new functional materials
- link surface structure to performance (durability, repellency, resistance)
- enable a more predictive and efficient development process
