Project Idea Description
Initial situation and problem definition
The Holodeck project aims at using Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies to allow the involvement of different stakeholders such as city planners, architects and citizens in the city planning process.
Specifically, by overlaying 3D contents over reality, AR technologies allow the general public (regardless of their technical background) to experience existing designs (buildings, park, etc.) within the real context.
Currently, importing existing designs into the AR applications needs to be performed by programmers. A prototype of an interactive tool which allows non-expert users to import and edit these designs at runtime has been developed but user interface (UI) design has not been extensively performed.
Aim of the work and expected results
The goal of this work is to complete the existing interactive tool prototype with an extensive UI design and implement additional features for this tool such as annotation, commenting, rating.
The tool will run on a mobile device, but could potentially be extended to AR headsets such as Hololens 2.
The final tool should be tested with suitable groups of users
Methods/procedure
- Literature review on UI design, scene content editing/annotation on mobile AR
- Development in Unity
- User study
Creativity, variations, innovation
The UI design and how the additional features are implemented are completely up to the student(s)
This project is about designing a user interface and interaction methods for an AR interactive tool (creating, editing, rating, commenting) on mobile devices.
