Project Idea Description

Biochar remove CO2 from the atmosphere, avoid large amounts of other greenhouse gases and can substitute many petroleum-based materials. As additive it can improve a polymer-based parts in several ways. The project idea is about to explore these possibilities in closed relation to possible and user parts.


The Institute of Bioenergy and Resource Efficiency and the Institute for Polymer Engineering of the Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz will join their competences. On Labscale biochar can be produced with controlled parameters. Using inhouse possibilities several polymer processing methods can be evaluated for compounding, extrusion, injection moulding to develop prototypes.


We are looking for additional project partners all along the value chain from producer of biochar, processing companies or final end user.
