Project Idea Description
Technologies and expertise to build net zero buildings are available. In recent years, 2SOL alliance has implemented several new construction and renovation projects, which have been measured in detail since then. The data of 3 projects are now available.
The net zero transformation of the Swiss building stock is proceeding too slowly according to achieve the federal government's goals. There are numerous reasons for this, as:
- the lack of awareness among building owners
- outdated business models and individually driven building processes (starting at putting together investment costs until to the optimization in operation)
- market offers of individual trades and suppliers instead of integrally optimized building refurbishments
- the lack of new models for financing and legal frameworks as well as incentives for refurbishments
To encounter the awareness, successful projects must be communicated as best practice examples. The challenge is how to achieve understandable communication from highly technical and economically complex calculations and results. The focus must be set to economically optimized buildings by the life cycle.
Beside that, new business models for simplified implementation of net zero refurbishments need to be developed. On the one hand, attractive models for building owners to benefit from long-term financing funds including quality control. An approach could be geographically independent building clusters. On the other hand, models for the building industry in order to be able to make comprehensive offers to the owner while at the same time ensuring quality standards. New business models not only allows to integrate current avalable technology for sector coupling and seasonal storage, but are also crucial for implementing improved future technologies (as e.g. high-efficient insulation material or new storage technologies)
This booster project enables to create a preliminary project in order to
- define the fundamentals of best-practice communication
- developping new business models of implementation net-zero buildings that are self-financing. These models need to be applicable to > 80% of swiss building park.
This challenge aims at accelerating energetic refurbishments and the transformation of multi-family houses to renewable building energy systems.
Economically attractive business models of total cost of ownership are needed. Target group is on the one hand building owners/investors and on the other hand building industry. Innovative business models for these needs to be developed.
Beside that, the dissemination of best-practice of economic successful projects is also key for a successful transformation.
