Project Idea Description

# Ausgangslage und Problemstellung

Token-based economics are emerging in gaming, as a way to help players create unique gaming items, that can be traded within the same or different gaming universes. The end goal is to democratize access to gaming marketplaces.

Distributed ledger technology enables players to become the true and sole owners of gaming items and to trade them freely without the risk of vendor lock-in and the ensuing costs.

# Ziel der Arbeit und erwartete Resultate

- Demonstrate the feasibility of token economics in gaming using Fabric Token SDK.

- Design and implement a prototype of a simple game where all resources and items are modeled as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and transactions between players are settled as token transactions on a ledger.

- Write a thesis, describing and evaluating the approach and the underlying technology.

- The developed prototype will be contributed to the Hyperledger Open-source community and made available on Github.

# Gewünschte Methoden, Vorgehen

- The work is experimental and will leverage cutting-edge technologies such as Hyperledger Fabric [1] and the Fabric Token SDK [2].

- Nature of the project: Theory 25%, Software development 75%

# Kreativität, Varianten, Innovation:

- The game to be used in the prototype is not set yet and can be freely picked by the student. Moreover, the project is a great opportunity to develop a good understanding of the interplay between token-based economics, blockchain and gaming, and to propose novel mechanisms that democratize gaming marketplaces and showcase how blockchain-based token systems can power these marketplaces cheaply and efficiently.
