Ausgangslage und Problemstellung:

Many devices consume significant amounts of energy even when they are not used or in standby mode. During these times, they are in the mode "Operation without Use" (OwU). If the device could be completely switched off during these times, the waste of energy could be minimized.

SCHURTER's IoT product can be integrated into any device powered by the mains and not consuming more than 10A. It samples the energy consumption data (current, voltage power and power factor) and exchanges it with the SCHURTER Cloud. Further, it can completely switch off the device by disconnecting it from the mains supply.

In an Innosuisse project together with HSLU, algorithms for detecting the OwU of water dispensers, coffee machines and office printers were developed on the SCHURTER Cloud. However, configuration and training of the OwU requires expert knowledge and can not be done by the user on its own. Therefore, an easy to use web application for configuration and monitoring of the OwU must be developed.


Ziel der Arbeit:

Development of an easy to use web application for configuration and monitoring of the OwU. The web application consists of a front-end part, where the user can define the settings for the algorithm. The backend needs to be extended to work with the newly designed frontend including the communication of OwU intervals to the IoT device.


Methoden, Vorgehen:

The project builds on top of an existing research project. First of all, the documentation and code of this project must be studied.

The web app must be integrated into the existing dashboard for the IoT system and the backend service needs to be enhanced and changed to support the frontend system.


Kreativität, Varianten, Innovation:

The goal of this project is to develop a software prototype but not to modify the IoT device's hardware. Combine all available information into an informative, easy to use and reliable web application. You are free to extend the OwU with additional features and configuration possibilities as well as creating interactive plots.
