Project Idea Description
Ausgangslage und Problemstellung:
“Data is the new gold”
Energy consumption data (current, voltage, power, and power factor) obtained from an arbitrary device over time may contain lots of information about the device and its state and usage. SCHURTER’s IoT product can be integrated into any device powered by the mains and not consuming more than 10A. It measures the energy consumption data of the electrical device. The system samples the values and exchanges them with the SCHURTER Cloud. As an electrical device gets older or a maintenance interval gets closer, its energy consumption details may change. This change can be detected and reformulated as a degradation factor, which indicates the wear of the electrical device. Specifying a lower threshold for the degradation may help the user of the device to plan maintenance intervals or prevent sudden failure of the device.
Ziel der Arbeit:
Development of a proof of concept of a cloud service that calculates the degradation factor based on energy consumption data from an IoT device. The service integrates with the existing dashboard for the IoT product and allows to configure the service and visualize its outputs.
Methoden, Vorgehen:
The degradation of the electronics may depend on the device. Therefore, an initial assumption about the degradation model must be made and the implementation of it may be easily adapted in the future. Simulated measurement data may help understanding the degradation model built. More focus should be put on the backend service and the visualization and configuration of the service on the existing dashboard.
Kreativität, Varianten, Innovation:
"Data is the new gold"! What kind of information can be obtained from the energy consumption profile? Which information can be used to calculate the degradation? How does the service look like from an architectural point of view? The goal of this project is to develop a software prototype but not to modify the IoT device's hardware. Combine all available information from the data to provide an additional value to the customer.
