Ausgangslage und Problemstellung: At the very latest with the Russian invasion into Ukraine, it has become evident that cyberattacks are part of the arsenal employed in modern warfare. As such, they are subjected to the Geneva conventions and their use may in some situations constitute a war crime.


Ziel der Arbeit und erwartete Resultate: This work takes a look at existing discussions of digital warfare and war crimes and considers evidence that may be of use when attempting to prosecute those crimes. The aim of this exploratory work is to have an overview of domains of digital war crimes and considerations for future research in digital evidence related to those crimes.


Gewünschte Methoden, Vorgehen: This work will mostly be theoretical, focusing on bringing together literature from legal, security and technical research into an interdisciplinary work. The work will be written in English as its target public would quickly approach zero otherwise.


Kreativität, Varianten, Innovation: A high degree of autonomy and problem-solving skills are expected. The student has autonomy in delimiting the scope of his work.
