Medela MDC Explorer - Erstellen iOS oder Android App

Project Idea Metadata

Project Idea Description

Initial situation and problem definition:

Medela is a manufacturer of medical devices (MD). These MD are roughly categorized in breast feeding and surgical and wound care products. A growing number of products are equipped with Bluetooth low energy (BLE) connectivity. It implements the Medela device communication (MDC) protocol which allows to readout e.g. sensor data, device state or the log file. This MDC protocol varies from device to device.

Aim of the work and expected results:

The goal is to evaluate which technology is best suited for the tasks and to develop an iOS/Android application which provides the following services:

- Scanning for, and pairing with MDC devices over BLE

- Presenting and logging of data provided by the MDC protocol

- Passing data from the MDC devices to an Azure cloud

It must be possible to extend the MDC Explorer App easily with new MDC devices definitions. Also the Azure cloud interface has to be extenable.

Methods/procedure:

1) Study Medela Device Communication protocol (MDC)

2) Technology evaluation with respect to required protocols

3) Prototype implementation with BLE and cloud integration

Creativity, variations, innovation:

Create (native) mobile application from scratch

Software Architecture

Focus on communication protocols, hardware and cloud

Other remarks (requirements, prior knowledge,...):

MobPro (iOS / Android), ev. MobLab or similar knowledge
